PROJECT TITLE
Fold-o-matic
PROJECT GOAL: To create a walker prototype that will allow individuals with muscular dystrophy continued independence when their strength declines.
About 250,000 people in the U.S. are impacted by muscular dystrophy. Our team created a walker to help people with muscular dystrophy close the walker with little strength and ease, addressing the inequity of physical impairment. Our prototype walker will allow our user to continue moving effectively and independently using the modified walker while their strength declines. We integrated a Circuit Playground Express along with motors and a push button where the walker would close and fold with a push of a button. Our prototype met the needs of our target user. If offered the opportunity to continue improving our prototype, we would add safety features to be used in conjunction with the motors to ensure the walker isn’t closed by accident while in use. We would implement an ultrasonic sensor to detect whether it is safe or not to perform the action
